A successful secondary school in Middlesbrough is seeking a proactive and highly organised Attendance Officer to join its dedicated pastoral team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who understands the importance of excellent attendance in raising student achievement and enjoys working collaboratively with young people, families and colleagues to improve attendance across the school.
Working closely with the Attendance Lead, Heads of Year, safeguarding team and external agencies, you will monitor attendance, identify patterns of concern and implement strategies that encourage students to attend school consistently. You will play a central role in ensuring attendance procedures are followed efficiently while helping remove barriers that may affect students' education.
The successful candidate will be an excellent communicator who is committed to supporting student wellbeing while maintaining the highest standards of attendance administration.

Attendance Team
The Attendance Team works collaboratively with students, families, school leaders and external agencies to promote excellent attendance while supporting those who require additional intervention.
Your responsibilities will include:
Monitoring daily attendance and punctuality.
Contacting parents regarding unexplained absences.
Producing attendance reports and analysing attendance data.
Identifying persistent absence and implementing intervention strategies.
Meeting with parents and carers to discuss attendance concerns.
Liaising with the Local Authority Attendance Service and external agencies.
Supporting Heads of Year with attendance action plans.
Maintaining accurate attendance records using the school's MIS.
Promoting whole-school attendance initiatives.
Ensuring compliance with statutory attendance legislation.
Maintaining confidential student records.
Providing administrative support to the pastoral team where required.

Requirements
Previous attendance, pastoral or school administration experience is desirable.
Excellent organisational and communication skills.
Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
Experience using school MIS systems is desirable.
High attention to detail.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Professional and empathetic approach.
Commitment to safeguarding and inclusion.
Ability to build positive relationships with students and families.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
