A welcoming and ambitious secondary school in Luton is seeking a passionate and dedicated French and German Teacher to join its Modern Foreign Languages department. This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic practitioner to inspire students across Key Stages 3 and 4, delivering engaging lessons that develop confidence and proficiency in both French and German.
Working closely with the Head of MFL and wider teaching team, the successful candidate will contribute to curriculum development, raise standards of achievement, and foster a love of languages within a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
French and German Teacher – Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Learning
Plan and deliver high-quality French and German lessons across KS3 and KS4.
Create engaging learning experiences that inspire students of all abilities.
Adapt teaching strategies to meet the needs of SEND, EAL, and higher-attaining students.
Use assessment effectively to monitor progress and inform future planning.
Promote excellent classroom behaviour and establish a positive learning environment.
Curriculum & Assessment
Deliver the French and German curriculum in line with national requirements.
Develop engaging schemes of work and teaching resources.
Prepare students effectively for GCSE examinations.
Monitor student progress and implement interventions where required.
Contribute to curriculum planning and departmental improvement initiatives.
Pastoral & Student Support
Build positive relationships with students, parents, and carers.
Support students' personal development and wellbeing.
Contribute to safeguarding by following all school policies and procedures.
Encourage participation in enrichment activities, language clubs, and educational visits.
Act as a tutor, where required, supporting students' academic and personal development.
Department & School Contribution
Work collaboratively with colleagues to share best practice and improve outcomes.
Attend departmental meetings, parents' evenings, and whole-school events.
Contribute to the continued development of the MFL department.
Participate in professional development opportunities.
Support the wider life of the school through extracurricular activities and school initiatives.
French and German Teacher – Person Specification
Essential
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
Degree in French, German, Modern Foreign Languages, or a related subject.
Experience teaching French and German at secondary level.
Strong classroom management skills.
Excellent communication and organisational skills.
A commitment to achieving excellent outcomes for all students.
A passion for language learning and cultural awareness.
Desirable
Experience teaching GCSE French and German.
Ability to teach one language to A Level.
Experience contributing to curriculum development.
Knowledge of current MFL teaching strategies and assessment practices.
Experience working in a diverse secondary school setting.
