Art Teacher Role in an Independent School

An established Independent School in Hertford is seeking to appoint a creative and inspiring Art Teacher to join its successful Art department from September. About the Role

The successful candidate will teach Art across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, and Key Stage 5, delivering engaging lessons that encourage students to experiment, explore ideas, and develop their individual artistic style.

Students study a diverse range of disciplines including drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, mixed media, and contemporary art practices. You will prepare students for GCSE and A-Level Art qualifications while developing their creative thinking, technical ability, and understanding of artistic processes.

You will also contribute to the wider life of the department through exhibitions, art clubs, creative workshops, competitions, and enrichment activities that allow students to showcase their work beyond the classroom.

Key Responsibilities

• Teach Art across KS3, KS4, and KS5

• Deliver creative, engaging, and well-structured lessons

• Prepare students for GCSE and A-Level Art examinations

• Develop students’ practical skills, creativity, and confidence

• Support students in developing personal portfolios and artistic identities

• Assess progress and provide high-quality feedback

• Contribute to curriculum planning and departmental development

• Organise exhibitions, clubs, and enrichment activities

Candidate Requirements

Essential Requirements

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

• Experience teaching Art at secondary level

• Ability to teach KS3 and KS4 confidently

• Strong practical knowledge of artistic techniques and processes

• Excellent classroom management and communication skills

Desirable

• Experience teaching A-Level Art

• Specialist knowledge in areas such as Fine Art, Photography, or Sculpture

• Experience organising exhibitions or creative projects

• A proven track record of delivering strong student outcomes
