School Caretaker – Progressive Secondary Academy in Nottingham
Start Date: September 2026
Contract: Full-time, Permanent (Shift-Pattern Framework)
Salary: Paid to scale (Support Staff Framework)
The Role
A progressive Secondary Academy in Nottingham is seeking a professional, proactive, and exceptionally organised School Caretaker to join their active campus premises team. This vital site-based position is an excellent opportunity for a skilled maintenance professional, caretaker, or handy technician looking to manage the daily physical safety, security, and smooth mechanical running of a busy educational environment.
The successful candidate will share responsibility for the day-to-day security and building operations across a multi-building campus, working on a structured early/late alternating shift pattern. Primary duties include taking operational ownership of morning unlocking routines or evening site securing, conducting reactive room setups, monitoring utility meters, and tracking health and safety compliance items (such as fire alarm testing diaries and emergency lighting logs). You will also carry out routine building fabric maintenance, including basic plumbing repairs, painting, minor carpentry tasks, and managing localized asset inventories via the school's digital facilities software.
You will act as an approachable and helpful guide for staff and external community lets during out-of-hours building use. Excellent time-management skills and absolute reliability are necessary to execute systematic safety logs while dynamically managing fast-paced repair requests across the estate.
