English Teacher Role in a Comprehensive School

About the Role

The successful candidate will teach English across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, and Key Stage 5, delivering engaging and challenging lessons that develop students’ reading, writing, analytical, and communication skills.

Students follow a broad curriculum covering Shakespeare, classic and modern literature, poetry, drama, creative writing, and language analysis. You will prepare students for GCSE and A-Level English Literature and English Language examinations while encouraging a genuine enthusiasm for reading and critical thinking.

You will also contribute to the wider life of the department through literacy initiatives, reading programmes, debating, creative writing activities, theatre visits, and enrichment opportunities that extend learning beyond the classroom.

Key Responsibilities

• Teach English across KS3, KS4, and KS5

Candidate Requirements

Essential Requirements

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

• Experience teaching English at secondary level

• Ability to teach KS3 and KS4 confidently

• Strong subject knowledge in English Literature and Language

• Excellent classroom management and communication skills

Desirable

• Experience teaching A-Level English Literature and/or English Language

• Experience leading reading, literacy, or enrichment programmes

• Ability to contribute to wider English department activities

• A proven track record of delivering strong student outcomes
