English Teacher Role in a Free School

About the Role

The successful candidate will teach English across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, and Key Stage 5, delivering inspiring lessons that develop students’ reading, writing, analytical, and communication skills.

Students study a diverse range of literature, including classic and contemporary texts, poetry, drama, and creative writing. You will prepare students for GCSE and A-Level English Literature and English Language examinations while encouraging independent thought, discussion, and a genuine appreciation of language.

You will also contribute to the wider life of the department through literacy initiatives, debating, creative writing, reading programmes, theatre visits, and enrichment activities that encourage students to engage with English beyond the classroom.

Key Responsibilities

• Teach English across KS3, KS4, and KS5

• Deliver engaging, challenging, and well-structured lessons

• Prepare students for GCSE and A-Level English Literature and Language examinations

• Develop students’ literacy, analytical, and communication skills

• Assess progress and provide high-quality feedback

• Contribute to curriculum planning and departmental development

Candidate Requirements

Essential Requirements

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

• Experience teaching English at secondary level

• Ability to teach KS3 and KS4 confidently

• Strong subject knowledge in English Literature and Language

• Excellent classroom management and communication skills

Desirable

• Experience teaching A-Level English Literature and/or English Language

• Experience leading literacy or reading initiatives

• Ability to contribute to debating, drama, or creative writing activities

• A proven track record of delivering strong student outcomes
