Science Teacher | Highly Innovative Studio School | Braintree
CORE PURPOSE
We require an inspiring, industry-focused Science Teacher to deliver outstanding scientific instruction across Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5, specializing in applied science pathways, vocational technical qualifications (such as T-Levels or BTECs), and GCSE Separate and Combined Sciences. Operating within an innovative, employer-led technical academy catering to pupils aged 14 to 19, the successful candidate will facilitate a contextualized, project-based curriculum designed to bridge the gap between academic theory and industrial application, preparing pupils thoroughly for technical workplace deployments, higher apprenticeships, and terminal public examinations.
THE SCHOOL
Our specialized 14–19 technical academy is dedicated to cultivating a professional, adult-toned learning environment where academic study integrates directly with practical, industry-led enterprise. Working alongside commercial sponsors and major regional employers, our school blends core academic qualifications with specialized technical paths. The science department operates out of industry-standard laboratory spaces and is characterized by a culture of real-world problem-solving, workplace simulation, and collaborative planning. We operate a positive, professional code of conduct that mirrors workplace expectations, ensuring classrooms remain focused, mature environments where teachers can deliver high-impact, deeply contextualized scientific training.
KEY TASKS & DAILY OPERATIONS
Contextualized & Technical Instruction: Plan, resource, and deliver high-quality science lessons across GCSE and advanced technical/vocational pathways, systematically mapping core biological, chemical, and physical principles to real-world industrial and laboratory processes.
Employer-Linked Project Delivery: Collaborate with local engineering, logistics, and environmental technology partners to embed authentic workplace projects, industrial case studies, and advanced data-analysis techniques into the science curriculum.
Vocational & GCSE Optimization: Guide Key Stage 4 and post-16 examination cohorts meticulously through the demands of both terminal linear GCSE science papers and continuous technical/vocational module assessments, utilizing diagnostic tracking to optimize progress metrics.
Scaffolding Technical Literacy: Identify and target learning barriers across a diverse intake of students joining at Year 10, deploying explicit command-word coaching, visual logic models, and workplace-aligned practical guides to support SEND pupils while stretching advanced technical analysts.
Professional Mentorship & Pastoral Care: Fulfil personal tutor responsibilities for a dedicated cohort of students, managing workplace readiness routines, supporting professional wellbeing, and maintaining proactive communication with families and industry mentors.
PROFILE REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or a recognised equivalent teaching credential, paired with a strong honours degree in a scientific discipline (such as Chemistry, Physics, Biology, or Applied/Industrial Sciences). Relevant industry or laboratory experience outside of education is highly valued.
Pedagogical Capability: A proven track record or clear capacity to deliver strong progress metrics across both academic GCSE specifications and technical/vocational science pathways through structured, workplace-contextualized pedagogy.
Industry-Aligned & Supportive Ethos: An unwavering commitment to technical and vocational education, possessing the excellent interpersonal skills, professional drive, and clarity required to mentor young people toward successful STEM careers.
REGIONAL CONTEXT
A Growing Essex Hub of Innovation and Green Technology: Based in the expanding town of Braintree, the school capitalizes on a strong regional identity that balances rich heritage with modern industrial growth. Positioned within an area experiencing significant economic development—with growing local sectors in green technologies, precision manufacturing, and environmental science—the town provides an excellent, real-world backdrop for studying ecological systems, mechanical physics, and sustainable chemistry, connecting classroom science directly to local innovation, manufacturing infrastructure, and regional technical enterprise across Essex.
Connectivity & Infrastructure: The campus benefits from excellent transport links across Essex and the South East, offering straightforward road commuting via the strategic A120 dual carriageway (linking directly to Stansted and the M11) and the nearby A131. Public transit networks operate smoothly via comprehensive local bus routes, while Braintree and Braintree Chapel Hill railway stations provide regular Greater Anglia branch line services that connect the school effortlessly to Witham, Chelmsford, Colchester, and London Liverpool Street.
