School Caretaker – Thriving Secondary School in Salisbury
Start Date: September 2026
Contract: Full-time, Permanent (Shift-Pattern Framework)
Salary: Paid to scale
The Role
A thriving Secondary School in Salisbury is seeking a professional, highly adaptable, and exceptionally organised School Caretaker to join their dedicated site operations team. This hands-on, critical support position directly ensures the safety, security, and smooth running of a busy regional school, making it an excellent opportunity for a skilled maintenance technician, trade specialist, or practical professional looking for a secure, collaborative school framework.
Operating across a rotating early/late shift pattern, you will share responsibility for the secure opening and locking procedures of the entire school site. Day-to-day duties include performing general fabric repairs (minor plumbing fixes, basic carpentry adjustments, glazing checks, and painting), conducting mandatory safety checks (such as water temperature logging and fire door testing), and keeping the internal spaces and external grounds hazard-free. You will also manage incoming delivery logistics, assist with room and sports hall setups for examinations or community lettings, and efficiently resolve reactive maintenance issues flagged on the school's central helpdesk.
You will act as a helpful and reliable presence on-site, communicating professionally with the Site Manager, teaching faculty, and external community networks utilizing the buildings after school hours. Strong time-management skills and absolute discretion are required to balance urgent porterage requests with planned safety checks.
School Information
This is an 11 to 18 well-established School in Salisbury with a powerful commitment to community inclusion, operational excellence, and support staff development. The school serves an engaged regional community, featuring beautifully maintained academic blocks alongside extensive practical facilities.
Students are exceptionally respectful and collaborative, treating their environment with genuine care. The caretaking team is treated as a highly valued pillar of the wider school family, and senior leaders prioritize manageable workloads, balanced shift allocations, and funded pathways for continuous safety training (such as working at heights, manual handling, or safety modules).
