French Teacher Role in an Outstanding Independent School
An Outstanding Independent School in St Albans is seeking to appoint an exceptional French Teacher to join its highly successful Modern Foreign Languages department from September. About the Role
The successful candidate will teach French across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, and Key Stage 5, delivering engaging and intellectually stimulating lessons that inspire a lifelong passion for languages.
Students develop advanced skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing while exploring the literature, history, and culture of the French-speaking world. You will prepare students for GCSE and A-Level examinations, encouraging them to communicate confidently and think critically about language and culture.
The successful candidate will also contribute to the department's extensive enrichment programme, including language clubs, cultural events, exchange visits, overseas trips, debating competitions, and university preparation for students wishing to pursue languages at degree level.
Key Responsibilities
Teach French across KS3, KS4, and KS5
Deliver engaging, challenging, and well-structured lessons
Prepare students for GCSE and A-Level French examinations
Develop students' speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills
Assess progress and provide high-quality, constructive feedback
Contribute to curriculum planning and departmental development
Support language enrichment activities, exchanges, and educational visits
Foster confidence, curiosity, and a genuine enthusiasm for language learning

Candidate Requirements
Essential Requirements
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent teaching qualification
Experience teaching French at secondary level
Ability to teach KS3 and KS4 confidently
Excellent subject knowledge of the French language and culture
Strong classroom management and communication skills
Desirable
Experience teaching A-Level French
Ability to teach a second language, such as Spanish or German
Experience organising language exchanges or overseas visits
A proven track record of delivering outstanding student outcomes
