About the Role
The successful candidate will teach English Language and English Literature across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, and Key Stage 5, delivering engaging lessons that challenge and inspire students of all abilities.
Students study a rich and diverse curriculum encompassing classic and contemporary literature, poetry, drama, fiction, and non-fiction from a broad range of authors and cultures. You will support students in developing advanced reading, writing, speaking, and analytical skills while preparing them for GCSE and A-Level examinations.
Beyond the classroom, you will contribute to curriculum development and a vibrant programme of enrichment, including creative writing clubs, theatre visits, author events, debating competitions, public speaking, and whole-school literacy initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Teach English Language and English Literature across KS3, KS4, and KS5
Deliver engaging, challenging, and well-structured lessons
Prepare students for GCSE and A-Level examinations
Develop students' literacy, analytical, and communication skills
Assess progress and provide high-quality, constructive feedback
Contribute to curriculum planning and departmental development
Support literacy initiatives and extracurricular activities
Inspire a lifelong appreciation of literature and language

Candidate Requirements
Essential Requirements
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
Experience teaching English at secondary level
Ability to teach KS3 and KS4 confidently
Strong subject knowledge in English Language and Literature
Excellent classroom management and communication skills
Desirable
Experience teaching A-Level English Language and/or Literature
Experience leading literacy initiatives or enrichment activities
Ability to contribute to creative writing, debating, or theatre programmes
A proven track record of securing excellent student outcomes
