Science Teacher | Highly Regarded School | Nottingham
CORE PURPOSE
We require an inspiring, highly collaborative Science Teacher to deliver outstanding general science instruction across Key Stage 3 and specialist Biology, Chemistry, or Physics modules across Key Stage 4. Operating within an ambitious, oversubscribed secondary comprehensive academy widely celebrated for its strong academic progress and deep community pride, the successful candidate will facilitate a structured, practical-led curriculum designed to foster deep conceptual understanding, mathematical fluency in scientific equations, and robust empirical inquiry, preparing all pupils thoroughly for terminal GCSE Combined Science and Separate Science public examinations.
THE SCHOOL
Our academy operates as a proud, community-focused secondary provider dedicated to raising academic standards, celebrating diversity, and fostering a strong passion for STEM education. The campus features specialized, modern science blocks, newly updated laboratory spaces with dedicated data-logging equipment, and a highly collaborative science faculty. Our behaviour management framework relies on strict organizational structures, clear behavioural expectations, and mutual respect, maintaining an exceptionally safe, orderly, and highly purposeful learning environment where pupils can confidently engage in practical laboratory experiments and collaborative analytical problem-solving.
KEY TASKS & DAILY OPERATIONS
Dynamic & Practical Science Instruction: Plan, resource, and deliver high-quality science lessons across all attainment pathways, embedding consistent mathematical scaffolding to demystify complex formulas, balancing theoretical concepts with frequent hands-on laboratory work.
Closing Scientific Attainment Gaps: Identify and target learning barriers within mixed-ability cohorts, deploying visual logic models, physical demonstrations, and targeted literacy strategies to accelerate progress for all pupils, including those with Special Educational Needs (SEND).
Rigorous Laboratory Leadership: Oversee practical experiments with strict adherence to CLEAPSS health and safety guidelines, teaching pupils safe manipulation of chemical agents, electrical circuits, and biological specimens.
GCSE Performance Tracking: Guide Year 11 cohorts systematically through the demands of terminal Foundation and Higher tier GCSE papers, utilizing formative test data to eliminate deep-seated scientific misconceptions and maximize grade retention.
Inclusive Pastoral Support: Fulfil full form tutor responsibilities within an established year group structure, supporting pupil wellbeing, managing daily registration routines, and maintaining proactive, positive communication with families.
PROFILE REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or a recognised equivalent teaching credential, paired with a strong honours degree in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or a closely related quantitative scientific discipline.
Pedagogical Capability: A proven track record or clear capacity to deliver strong progress metrics in terminal public GCSE examinations across both Combined and Separate Science pathways through structured, explicit scientific pedagogy.
Inclusive & Patient Ethos: An unwavering commitment to comprehensive education, demonstrating the patience, clarity, and adaptability required to stretch high-achieving young scientists while building basic analytical confidence in pupils of all backgrounds.
REGIONAL CONTEXT
The City of Literature, Pharmacy, and Scientific Discovery: Based in the culturally vibrant city of Nottingham, the school capitalizes on a unique regional identity celebrated for industrial pioneering, medical innovations, and global life sciences research. The city's status as a major healthcare and pharmaceutical hub—historically tied to pioneering developments in manufacturing chemistry and medical imaging (MRI)—provides rich, real-world links for chemical bond structures, electromagnets, and human biology modules, connecting classroom science directly to Nottingham's leading research facilities, clean energy developments, and commercial science sectors.
Connectivity & Infrastructure: The campus benefits from excellent East Midlands transport infrastructure, offering straightforward road commuting via the M1 motorway, the A52, and the A46 corridors. Public transit networks operate seamlessly across the metropolitan area, utilizing an extensive local bus system and the modern Nottingham Express Transit (NET) tram network, alongside Nottingham railway station, which provides frequent East Midlands Railway and CrossCountry services linking the school directly to Derby, Leicester, Sheffield, and Newark.
