CORE PURPOSE
We require an ambitious, highly collaborative Science Teacher to deliver exceptional general science instruction across Key Stage 3 and specialist Biology, Chemistry, or Physics modules across Key Stage 4, with opportunities to teach post-16 advanced pathways. Operating within a highly successful mainstream secondary academy currently rated "Outstanding" by Ofsted, the successful candidate will facilitate a structured, practical-led curriculum designed to foster deep conceptual understanding, mathematical fluency in scientific equations, and robust empirical inquiry, preparing all pupils thoroughly for elite outcomes in terminal GCSE Combined Science and Separate Science public examinations.
THE SCHOOL
Our academy operates as an exceptional center of academic achievement and high aspirations, consistently recognized for its peerless educational standards, exemplary pupil conduct, and innovative STEM curriculum delivery. The campus features state-of-the-art science blocks, newly updated laboratory suites equipped with advanced data-logging technology, dedicated staff research zones, and a highly collaborative faculty of subject specialists. Our behavior management framework is built upon a highly embedded culture of mutual respect, impeccable routines, and active learning engagement, maintaining a silent, highly focused classroom environment that enables pupils to confidently conduct complex laboratory experiments and master advanced scientific concepts.
KEY TASKS & DAILY OPERATIONS
High-Impact & Practical Instruction: Plan, resource, and deliver top-tier science lessons across all attainment pathways, systematically embedding rigorous mathematical scaffolding to demystify complex formulas while balancing theoretical concepts with frequent hands-on laboratory work.
Securing Elite Progress Metrics: Target and eliminate learning misconceptions through highly precise diagnostic questioning, deploying advanced scientific scaffolding to ensure low-prior-attaining pupils close the gap while stretching high-prior-attaining scientists with complex non-routine data analysis.
Rigorous Laboratory Leadership: Oversee practical experiments with strict adherence to CLEAPSS health and safety guidelines, teaching pupils safe manipulation of chemical agents, electrical circuits, and biological specimens.
GCSE Performance Optimization: Guide Year 11 cohorts systematically through the rigorous demands of linear terminal papers, meticulously tracking data via central systems to optimize multi-step scientific problem-solving stamina and maximize high-grade boundary retention.
Exemplary Pastoral Mentorship: Fulfill full form tutor and academic mentor responsibilities within an established year group structure, managing daily registration, delivering high-quality pastoral units, and maintaining proactive, professional communication with families.
PROFILE REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or a recognised equivalent teaching credential, paired with a strong honours degree in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or a closely related highly quantitative scientific discipline.
Pedagogical Capability: A proven track record or clear capacity to deliver outstanding progress metrics and elite high-grade outcomes in terminal public GCSE examinations across both Combined and Separate Science pathways through highly structured, explicit scientific pedagogy.
Aspirational & Analytical Ethos: An unwavering commitment to maintaining "Outstanding" standards of comprehensive education, possessing the intellectual depth, structural clarity, and data-literacy required to drive exceptional student progress.
REGIONAL CONTEXT
The UK's Innovation Capital & Advanced Aerospace Hub: Based in the vibrant city of Derby, Derbyshire, the school capitalizes on a world-class regional identity built entirely upon technological innovation, advanced transport engineering, and industrial pioneering. The city's status as a global home to engineering heavyweights—including Rolls-Royce, Alstom, and Toyota Manufacturing UK—provides rich, real-world applications for thermodynamics, electromagnetism, chemical reactions, and material science modules, connecting classroom science directly to cutting-edge regional aerospace engineering, nuclear propulsion, and green transport supply chains.
Connectivity & Infrastructure: The campus benefits from premium East Midlands transport infrastructure, offering straightforward road commuting via the A52, A38, and the close link to the M1 motorway corridor. Public transit networks operate seamlessly across the metropolitan area, utilizing comprehensive local bus networks alongside Derby Midland railway station—a major national rail hub providing high-speed East Midlands Railway and CrossCountry services that link the school directly to Nottingham, Leicester, Sheffield, Birmingham New Street, and London St Pancras International.
