CORE PURPOSE
We require an inspiring, highly collaborative Science Teacher to deliver outstanding general science instruction across Key Stage 3 and specialist Biology, Chemistry, or Physics modules across Key Stage 4. Operating within a large, vibrant mainstream comprehensive school, the successful candidate will facilitate a structured, practical-led curriculum designed to foster deep conceptual understanding, mathematical fluency in scientific equations, and robust empirical inquiry, preparing all pupils thoroughly for terminal GCSE Combined Science and Separate Science public examinations.
THE SCHOOL
Our comprehensive school operates as a welcoming, community-focused secondary provider dedicated to fostering high academic aspirations, social inclusivity, and a strong passion for STEM education. The campus features specialized, modern science blocks, newly updated laboratory spaces with dedicated data-logging equipment, and a highly collaborative science faculty. Our behaviour management framework relies on explicit classroom routines, positive reinforcement, and clear accountability, maintaining a safe, highly purposeful learning environment where pupils can confidently engage in practical laboratory experiments and collaborative analytical problem-solving.
KEY TASKS & DAILY OPERATIONS
Dynamic & Practical Science Instruction: Plan, resource, and deliver high-quality science lessons across all key stages, embedding consistent mathematical scaffolding to demystify complex formulas, balancing theoretical concepts with frequent hands-on laboratory work.
Closing Scientific Attainment Gaps: Identify and target learning barriers within mixed-ability cohorts, deploying visual logic models, physical demonstrations, and targeted literacy strategies to accelerate progress for all pupils, including those with Special Educational Needs (SEND).
Rigorous Laboratory Leadership: Oversee practical experiments with strict adherence to CLEAPSS health and safety guidelines, teaching pupils safe manipulation of chemical agents, electrical circuits, and biological specimens.
GCSE Performance Tracking: Guide Year 11 cohorts systematically through the demands of terminal Foundation and Higher tier GCSE papers, utilizing formative test data to eliminate deep-seated scientific misconceptions and maximize grade retention.
Community Pastoral Care: Fulfil full form tutor responsibilities within an established year group structure, managing daily registration, delivering pastoral curriculum units, and maintaining proactive, supportive communication with families.
PROFILE REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or a recognised equivalent teaching credential, paired with a strong honours degree in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or a closely related quantitative scientific discipline.
Pedagogical Capability: A proven track record or clear capacity to deliver strong progress metrics in terminal public GCSE examinations across both Combined and Separate Science pathways through structured, explicit scientific pedagogy.
Inclusive & Patient Ethos: An unwavering commitment to comprehensive education, demonstrating the patience, clarity, and adaptability required to stretch high-achieving young scientists while building basic analytical confidence in pupils of all abilities.
REGIONAL CONTEXT
The Black County Heritage & Industrial Science Hub: Based in the historic borough of Dudley, West Midlands, the school capitalizes on a world-class regional identity built entirely upon industrial pioneering, engineering heritage, and metallurgy. The town's proximity to pioneering regional engineering firms, science innovation centres, and the Black Country Living Museum provides rich, real-world links for chemical reduction, material science, and thermodynamic modules, connecting classroom science directly to the pioneering manufacturing and industrial legacy of the region.
Connectivity & Infrastructure: The campus benefits from excellent West Midlands transport infrastructure, offering straightforward road commuting via the M5 and M6 motorways, the A4123 Birmingham New Road, and the A461. Public transit networks operate seamlessly across the metropolitan area, utilizing comprehensive local bus networks and the newly extended West Midlands Metro tram line, alongside Dudley Port and nearby railway stations, which provide high-frequency West Midlands Railway and Transport for Wales services linking the school directly to Wolverhampton, Walsall, Stourbridge, and Birmingham New Street.
