THE SCHOOL
Our academy operates as an inclusive, forward-thinking secondary school dedicated to high academic standards, pupil character development, and cultivating a strong sense of community responsibility. The campus features modern, purpose-built science laboratories, fully equipped preparation rooms, and an exceptionally collaborative science faculty. Our behaviour management framework is built upon clear expectations, consistent routines, and mutual respect, maintaining a calm, highly purposeful learning environment that allows pupils to safely engage in practical investigations and independent research.
KEY TASKS & DAILY OPERATIONS
Practical-Led STEM Instruction: Plan, resource, and deliver high-quality science lessons across all attainment pathways, embedding consistent practical investigations to demystify complex chemical reactions, biological systems, and physics formulae.
Closing Attainment Gaps: Identify and target learning barriers, deploying structured scaffolding, visual models, and targeted literacy interventions to accelerate the progress of all pupils, including those with Special Educational Needs (SEND).
Rigorous Laboratory Leadership: Manage busy school laboratory spaces with flawless adherence to CLEAPSS health and safety standards, teaching safe experimental techniques and proper handling of scientific apparatus.
GCSE Performance Tracking: Guide Year 11 cohorts systematically through the demands of terminal Foundation and Higher tier GCSE Science papers, meticulously analysing mock scripts to eliminate misconceptions and maximise high-grade boundary retention.
Community Pastoral Care: Fulfil full form tutor responsibilities within an established year group structure, managing daily registration, delivering pastoral curriculum units, and maintaining proactive, supportive communication with families.
PROFILE REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or a recognised equivalent teaching credential, paired with a strong honours degree in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or a closely related natural science discipline.
Pedagogical Capability: A proven track record or clear capacity to deliver strong progress metrics in terminal public GCSE examinations across both Combined and Separate Science pathways through structured, explicit pedagogy.
Inclusive Mindset: An unwavering commitment to comprehensive education, demonstrating the patience, clarity, and adaptability required to inspire and support pupils of all abilities.
REGIONAL CONTEXT
East London Gateway & Technical Crossroads: Based in the large market town of Romford, situated within the London Borough of Havering, the school capitalizes on a unique regional identity where the urban energy of East London meets the expanding technical and industrial corridors of Essex. This local context provides rich, real-world links for manufacturing physics, environmental science, and technical engineering modules, connecting classroom science directly to regional commerce, infrastructure projects, and expanding Thames Gateway engineering enterprises.
Connectivity & Infrastructure: The campus benefits from premium London and home counties transport infrastructure, offering straightforward road commuting via the A12, A127, and nearby M25 motorway. Public transit links are exceptionally efficient, utilizing an extensive local TfL bus network alongside Romford railway station, which provides high-frequency Elizabeth Line and Greater Anglia services linking the school directly to Stratford, London Liverpool Street, Shenfield, and the wider Essex region.
