Pastoral Officer Role in a Community Academy
A supportive and inclusive Community Academy in Croydon is seeking to appoint a dedicated and compassionate Pastoral Officer to join its pastoral team from September. About the Role
As Pastoral Officer, you will play a key role in supporting students across the school, helping to promote positive behaviour, strong attendance, emotional wellbeing, and high levels of engagement with learning.
You will work closely with Heads of Year, safeguarding staff, teachers, parents/carers, and external agencies to identify barriers to learning and put effective support in place. The role will involve mentoring students, monitoring attendance and behaviour, supporting families, and contributing to a strong culture of care and inclusion across the school.

Key Responsibilities
Support students with behaviour, attendance, wellbeing, and engagement
Work closely with Heads of Year and pastoral leaders to provide targeted support
Build positive relationships with students, families, and staff
Help identify barriers to learning and coordinate effective interventions
Support safeguarding and pastoral processes in line with school policies
Monitor student attendance, punctuality, and behaviour records
Liaise with external agencies and support services where appropriate
Maintain accurate records of pastoral support and interventions

Candidate Requirements
Essential Requirements
Experience working with children or young people in a school, youth, or community setting
Strong understanding of pastoral support, safeguarding, and student wellbeing
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
Ability to work calmly and effectively with students facing a range of challenges
Good organisational skills and ability to maintain accurate records
Desirable
Experience in a Pastoral Officer, Behaviour Mentor, Attendance, Safeguarding, or Inclusion role
Experience working with secondary-aged students
Knowledge of behaviour support strategies and early intervention approaches
Commitment to supporting inclusion and positive student outcomes
