Design & Technology Teaching Role in a Selective Academy
A high-performing Selective Academy in Derby is seeking to appoint a talented and enthusiastic Design & Technology Teacher to join its successful Technology faculty from September. About the Role
You will teach Design & Technology across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, and Key Stage 5, delivering engaging lessons that combine practical application with strong theoretical understanding.
Students will explore areas such as Product Design, Resistant Materials, Engineering Principles, Computer-Aided Design (CAD), and modern manufacturing techniques. You will support learners in developing design thinking, technical precision, and independent project-management skills.
The successful candidate will prepare students for GCSE and A-Level qualifications, helping them produce outstanding coursework and achieve excellent examination outcomes.
You will also contribute to STEM initiatives, design competitions, and enrichment activities that promote creativity and innovation beyond the classroom.
Key Responsibilities
Teach Design & Technology across KS3, KS4, and KS5
Deliver engaging practical and theory-based lessons
Prepare students for GCSE and A-Level qualifications
Support coursework, prototyping, and design projects
Maintain safe workshop practices and procedures
Assess student work and provide detailed, constructive feedback
Contribute to curriculum planning and departmental development
Support STEM enrichment activities and competitions

Candidate Requirements
Essential Requirements
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
Experience teaching Design & Technology at secondary level
Ability to teach KS3 and KS4 confidently
Strong subject knowledge in Product Design, Engineering, or Resistant Materials
Excellent classroom and workshop management skills
Desirable
Experience teaching A-Level Design & Technology
Experience using CAD/CAM technologies
Ability to contribute to STEM and engineering enrichment programmes
Strong track record of securing excellent student outcomes
