Design & Technology Teaching Role in an Independent School
An independent school in Leighton Buzzard is seeking to appoint an innovative and enthusiastic Design & Technology Teacher to join its successful department from September. About the Role
You will teach Design & Technology across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, and Key Stage 5, delivering engaging and hands-on lessons that develop both practical skills and theoretical understanding.
Students will study areas such as product design, resistant materials, engineering principles, CAD/CAM, and iterative design processes, building confidence in both making and evaluating design solutions.
You will prepare students for GCSE and A-Level/Level 3 DT qualifications, supporting coursework development and examination success.
You will work collaboratively within a supportive department with access to specialist workshops and a strong emphasis on creativity and innovation.
Key Responsibilities
Teach Design & Technology across KS3, KS4, and KS5
Deliver engaging practical and theory-based DT lessons
Support GCSE and A-Level/Level 3 DT preparation
Guide students through coursework and design projects
Maintain safe workshop environments and procedures
Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback
Contribute to curriculum development and departmental planning
Support extracurricular STEM and design activities

Candidate Requirements
Essential Requirements
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
Experience teaching Design & Technology at secondary level
Ability to teach KS3 and KS4 confidently
Strong subject knowledge in DT specialisms
Strong classroom and workshop management skills
Desirable
Experience teaching A-Level or Level 3 DT
Experience working in an independent school setting
Ability to contribute to STEM or enrichment activities
Experience with CAD/CAM or modern design tools
