Design & Technology Teaching Role in an Independent School
An independent school in Bedfordshire is seeking to appoint an innovative and enthusiastic Design & Technology Teacher to join its successful department from September. About the Role
You will teach Design & Technology across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, and Key Stage 5, delivering engaging and hands-on lessons that inspire creativity and technical understanding.
Students will explore areas such as product design, resistant materials, engineering principles, CAD/CAM, and design processes, developing both practical skills and theoretical knowledge.
You will prepare students for GCSE and A-Level/Level 3 DT qualifications, supporting them in producing high-quality coursework and achieving excellent outcomes.
You will work collaboratively within a successful department while benefiting from specialist workshops, smaller class sizes, and strong support for personalised learning.
Key Responsibilities
Teach Design & Technology across KS3, KS4, and KS5
Deliver practical and theory-based DT lessons
Prepare students for GCSE and A-Level/Level 3 DT examinations
Support coursework and design project development
Maintain safe workshop environments and procedures
Assess student work and provide constructive feedback
Contribute to curriculum planning and departmental development
Support STEM and design enrichment activities

Candidate Requirements
Essential Requirements
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
Experience teaching Design & Technology at secondary level
Ability to teach KS3 and KS4 confidently
Strong subject knowledge in DT specialisms (Product Design, Engineering, Graphics, or Resistant Materials)
Strong classroom and workshop management skills
Desirable
Experience teaching A-Level or Level 3 DT
Experience working in an independent school setting
Ability to contribute to STEM or extracurricular activities
Experience with CAD/CAM or modern design technologies
