History Teacher

Wayman Education is seeking an enthusiastic and captivating History Teacher to join a highly successful humanities department at an exceptional secondary school in Sawbridgeworth. This full-time, permanent position is scheduled to start in September 2026 and is well-suited for either an experienced historian looking for a fresh challenge or an ambitious Early Career Teacher (ECT).

The history department is a popular and cohesive team, dedicated to bringing the past to life through dynamic lesson planning, shared resources, and engaging curriculum delivery that inspires historical inquiry.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality, engaging history lessons across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (with potential opportunities to teach Key Stage 5 / A-Level for a suitably qualified candidate).

• Foster a deep interest in historical concepts, encouraging students to analyze sources critically, evaluate interpretations, and build structured, evidence-based arguments.

• Assess, track, and report on the academic progress and attainment of pupils in line with GCSE exam board specifications and school marking policies.

• Implement effective adaptive teaching strategies to challenge high-attaining pupils and provide robust support for students with diverse learning needs or SEND.

• Contribute to the wider life of the humanities department, participating in standardization, open evenings, and potential extracurricular historical trips.

Requirements

• Qualifications: Must hold QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) or QTLS, alongside a degree in History or a closely related humanities discipline.

• Experience: A proven track record of teaching history within a UK secondary school setting (including successful ITT/PGCE placements).

• Skills: Exceptional subject knowledge, strong classroom management techniques, and a passion for making historical narratives accessible and relevant to all learners.

• A strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
