Music Teaching Role in an Independent School
An independent school in Derby is seeking to appoint a talented and enthusiastic Music Teacher to join its successful Performing Arts department from September. This is a full-time role within a nurturing and academically ambitious school that values creativity, performance, and exceptional teaching.
Music is a highly regarded subject within the school, with students encouraged to develop performance skills, creativity, musical understanding, and confidence through a broad and engaging curriculum.
About the Role
You will teach Music across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, and Key Stage 5, delivering engaging and inspiring lessons that foster creativity, musical appreciation, and technical development.
Students will study performance, composition, listening, music theory, and music technology while exploring a wide range of genres, styles, and historical influences.
You will prepare students for GCSE and A-Level Music examinations, supporting them in achieving excellent outcomes while encouraging participation in concerts, productions, ensembles, and extracurricular music opportunities.
You will work collaboratively within a successful Performing Arts department while benefiting from smaller class sizes, specialist facilities, and a strong focus on personalised learning.
Key Responsibilities
Teach Music across KS3, KS4, and KS5
Deliver engaging practical and theory-based Music lessons
Prepare students for GCSE and A-Level Music examinations
Support performance, composition, and musical development
Lead or contribute to choirs, ensembles, concerts, and productions
Assess student work and provide constructive feedback
Contribute to curriculum planning and departmental development
Maintain high standards of classroom engagement and achievement

Candidate Requirements
Essential Requirements
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
Experience teaching Music at secondary level
Ability to teach KS3 and KS4 confidently
Strong subject knowledge in Music performance and theory
Strong classroom management and communication skills
Desirable
Experience teaching A-Level Music
Experience working in an independent school setting
Ability to lead extracurricular music activities or ensembles
Experience with music technology or composition software
