The Opportunity
A prestigious and forward-thinking independent school in Oxford is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and talented French Teacher in September 2026. We are looking for an inspiring teacher who can bring French language and culture to life, encouraging students to develop fluency, confidence, and a genuine appreciation of international perspectives.
The Role
The successful candidate will:
Teach French across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5
Deliver engaging and challenging lessons that develop students' speaking, listening, reading and writing skills
Prepare pupils for GCSE and A Level examinations
Foster enthusiasm for French language, literature and culture
Encourage confidence in communication and the practical application of language skills
Contribute to enrichment opportunities such as language clubs, cultural events, educational visits and exchange programmes
Support students with university applications, including those pursuing languages, international studies and related disciplines
Play an active role in the wider academic and pastoral life of the school
Independent school life extends beyond the classroom, and the French Teacher will be expected to contribute fully to co-curricular and enrichment programmes.

The Person
The successful applicant will demonstrate:
A strong academic background in French or a related subject
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent experience within the independent sector
Experience teaching French at GCSE and A Level
Excellent subject knowledge and a passion for language learning
The ability to inspire confidence, curiosity and cultural awareness
Strong classroom management and organisational skills
A willingness to contribute to co-curricular and enrichment activities
A clear understanding of safeguarding and child protection responsibilities
