English Teaching Role in an Independent School
An independent school on the Isle of Man is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and dedicated English Teacher to join its department from September. This is a full-time role within a supportive and academically ambitious school that values literacy, creativity, and exceptional teaching.
English is a highly regarded subject within the school, with students encouraged to develop strong reading, writing, analytical, and communication skills through a rich and engaging curriculum.
About the Role
You will teach English across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, and Key Stage 5, delivering engaging and intellectually stimulating lessons in both English Language and English Literature.
Students will study a broad range of texts including Shakespeare, modern prose, poetry, drama, and non-fiction while developing analytical thinking, interpretation skills, creative writing, and confidence in communication.
You will prepare students for GCSE and A-Level English examinations, supporting them in achieving excellent academic outcomes and progression to higher education.
You will work collaboratively within a successful English department while benefiting from smaller class sizes, excellent resources, and a strong focus on personalised learning.
Key Responsibilities
Teach English across KS3, KS4, and KS5
Deliver lessons in English Language and English Literature
Prepare students for GCSE and A-Level English examinations
Assess student work and provide clear, constructive feedback
Monitor student progress and maintain accurate records
Contribute to curriculum planning and departmental development
Support literacy initiatives and enrichment activities
Maintain high standards of classroom engagement and behaviour

Candidate Requirements
Essential Requirements
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
Experience teaching English at secondary level
Ability to teach KS3 and KS4 confidently
Strong subject knowledge in English Language and Literature
Strong classroom management and communication skills
Desirable
Experience teaching A-Level English
Experience working in an independent school setting
Ability to contribute to literacy or enrichment activities
Interest in boarding or wider pastoral involvement
