English Teaching Role in a Secondary School

A well-established secondary school in Sheffield is seeking to appoint an English Teacher to join its department from September. This is a full-time role within a supportive and ambitious school that values literacy, creativity, and high-quality teaching.

About the Role

You will teach English across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, and Key Stage 5, delivering engaging and well-structured lessons in both English Language and English Literature.

Students will study a broad range of texts including prose, poetry, drama, Shakespeare, modern literature, and non-fiction while developing analytical thinking, creative expression, extended writing, and critical interpretation skills.

You will prepare students for GCSE and A-Level English examinations, supporting them in building confidence with essay writing, textual analysis, interpretation, and exam technique.

You will work collaboratively within a successful English department committed to maintaining high standards of teaching and learning.

Key Responsibilities

• Teach English across KS3, KS4, and KS5

• Deliver lessons in English Language and English Literature

• Prepare students for GCSE and A-Level English examinations

• Assess student work and provide clear, constructive feedback

• Monitor student progress and maintain accurate records

• Contribute to curriculum planning and departmental development

Candidate Requirements

Essential Requirements

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

• Experience teaching English at secondary level

• Ability to teach KS3 and KS4 confidently

• Strong subject knowledge in English Language and Literature

• Strong classroom management and communication skills

Desirable

• Experience teaching A-Level English

• Experience preparing students for GCSE and A-Level examinations

• Ability to contribute to literacy or enrichment activities
