SENCO Role in an Independent School
An independent school in Buckinghamshire is seeking to appoint an experienced and dedicated SENCO to join its pastoral and inclusion team from September. About the Role
As SENCO, you will lead and coordinate the provision for students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), ensuring effective systems are in place to support student progress and wellbeing.
You will work closely with teaching staff, pastoral teams, senior leadership, parents/carers, and external agencies to identify student needs and implement targeted interventions and support plans.
The role includes overseeing learning support strategies, coordinating assessments, managing EHCP-related provision where appropriate, and ensuring inclusive teaching practices are embedded throughout the school.
You will also contribute to staff training and provide guidance on effective classroom support for students with additional learning needs.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage SEND provision across the school
Coordinate support plans and interventions for students with SEND
Work collaboratively with staff, families, and external professionals
Oversee assessments and support strategies for students with additional needs
Promote inclusive teaching and learning practices
Monitor student progress and evaluate intervention effectiveness
Provide SEND-related guidance and staff development
Support student wellbeing and pastoral priorities

Candidate Requirements
Essential Requirements
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or relevant school leadership experience
National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENCO) or willingness to complete it (where applicable)
Experience supporting students with SEND in a school setting
Strong understanding of SEND legislation and inclusive practice
Excellent organisational, communication, and leadership skills
Desirable
Previous SENCO experience in an independent or secondary school setting
Experience supporting EHCP processes and liaising with external agencies
Strong pastoral or inclusion experience
