SENCO Role in a Secondary School
A well-established secondary school in High Wycombe is seeking to appoint a dedicated and experienced SENCO to join its leadership and inclusion team from September. This is a full-time role within a supportive and inclusive school committed to ensuring every student can thrive and achieve their full potential.
The school places strong emphasis on inclusive education and effective support for students with additional learning needs, ensuring appropriate provision is in place to promote progress, wellbeing, and achievement.
About the Role
As SENCO, you will lead and coordinate the provision for students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), ensuring statutory responsibilities are met and support strategies are implemented effectively.
You will work closely with senior leaders, teaching staff, parents/carers, and external agencies to identify needs, implement targeted interventions, and monitor student progress.
The role includes oversight of EHCPs, intervention planning, staff training, and promoting inclusive teaching strategies across the school.
You will play a key role in supporting student wellbeing, inclusion, and access to high-quality education.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage SEND provision across the school
Coordinate support for students with SEND and additional needs
Oversee EHCPs, reviews, and statutory compliance
Work collaboratively with staff, parents/carers, and external agencies
Monitor student progress and evaluate intervention effectiveness
Provide staff training and guidance on inclusive practice
Support safeguarding, wellbeing, and inclusion priorities
Contribute to whole-school improvement and leadership initiatives

Candidate Requirements
Essential Requirements
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENCO) or willingness to complete it
Experience working with SEND provision in a school setting
Strong understanding of SEND legislation and statutory requirements
Excellent organisational, leadership, and communication skills
Desirable
Previous SENCO experience
Experience managing EHCP processes and external agency partnerships
Leadership or pastoral experience within a school setting
