Music Teaching Role in a Secondary School
A well-established secondary school in Derbyshire is seeking to appoint a Music Teacher to join its Performing Arts department from September. This is a full-time role within a supportive and inclusive school that values creativity, performance, and high-quality teaching.
Music is a highly valued subject within the school, with students encouraged to develop their performance, composition, listening, and analytical skills while exploring a wide range of musical styles and traditions.
About the Role
You will teach Music across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, and Key Stage 5, delivering engaging lessons that inspire creativity, confidence, and musical understanding.
Students will develop practical and theoretical skills through performance, composition, music technology, and listening activities while gaining an appreciation of different genres, cultures, and historical periods.
You will prepare students for GCSE and A-Level Music examinations, supporting them in building strong performance, composition, and analytical skills.
You will also contribute to the wider musical life of the school through concerts, ensembles, productions, and enrichment activities.
Key Responsibilities
Teach Music across KS3, KS4, and KS5
Deliver engaging lessons in performance, composition, and music theory
Prepare students for GCSE and A-Level Music examinations
Assess student work and provide clear, constructive feedback
Lead or support extracurricular music activities and performances
Contribute to curriculum planning and departmental development
Support concerts, productions, and musical events
Maintain high standards of classroom behaviour and engagement

Candidate Requirements
Essential Requirements
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
Experience teaching Music at secondary level
Ability to teach KS3 and KS4 confidently
Strong subject knowledge in Music
Strong classroom management and communication skills
Desirable
Experience teaching A-Level Music
Ability to lead choirs, bands, orchestras, or ensembles
Experience preparing students for GCSE and A-Level examinations
Knowledge of music technology and recording software
