Design & Technology (DT) Teacher | Academy | Stoke-on-Trent
CORE PURPOSE
We require a technically proficient educator to lead practical, theoretical, and portfolio-based instruction within our Design and Technology suite. The role involves managing workshop safety while challenging students to bridge abstract engineering concepts with physical material production.
KEY TASKS & DAILY OPERATIONS
Instructional Delivery: Plan and execute rigorous practical and theoretical lessons across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (GCSE and Vocational pathways).
Workshop Safety Governance: Enforce absolute health and safety compliance, including machine maintenance, personal protective equipment (PPE) routines, and safe tool handling.
Technical Portfolio Management: Guide students through the design, prototyping, and evaluation phases of their coursework folders to meet strict exam board criteria.
Material & Stock Coordination: Partner with the technical support team to manage material inventory, oversee CAD/CAM machinery calibration, and structure preparation schedules.
Pastoral Responsibilities: Lead an assigned form group, managing daily registration, monitoring attendance, and acting as the primary point of contact for parents.

Behaviour Systems: Classrooms and workshops run on highly structured, school-wide behaviour routines designed to keep workspaces orderly, quiet, and safe for complex practical machinery operations.
PROFILE REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) paired with an academic background or recognized credential in Product Design, Engineering, or a related industrial discipline.
Safety Accreditations: Valid workshop machinery health and safety certifications (such as DATA standards) are highly desirable.
Pedagogical Capability: Documented ability to implement school routines consistently while securing strong student progress outcomes in terminal technical assessments.
