Economics Teacher | Academy | Sheffield
The Opportunity
Sheffield is a dynamic city undergoing a major modern economic transformation, evolving from its proud heritage as a global steel manufacturing powerhouse into a leading European hub for advanced engineering, digital technology, and green energy innovation. Driven by prominent research centres and a booming corporate sector, the region relies heavily on high-level data analysis and strategic forecasting. We are seeking an analytically driven, intellectually rigorous Economics Teacher to join a progressive academy. In this role, you will challenge students to master microeconomic and macroeconomic theories, global trade dynamics, and quantitative market models—showing them how financial frameworks directly dictate global industry systems.
The School
Operating as an independent academy within a forward-thinking multi-academy trust, our school combines innovative educational practice with robust operational support. We benefit from centralized administrative and financial infrastructure networks, freeing our teaching staff to focus entirely on academic delivery. We implement explicit, highly consistent, school-wide behaviour routines that keep our campus quiet, respectful, and orderly. This structured environment ensures that our classrooms remain calm, purposeful, and highly focused spaces where teachers can lead sophisticated academic debates and rigorous economic modelling effectively.
The Department & Economic Culture
You will join a highly successful, collaborative Social Sciences and Business faculty that treats economics as a rigorous mathematical and philosophical discipline.
The department features contemporary learning spaces equipped with modern data tracking tools, financial software, and interactive macroeconomic modelling platforms.
Our curriculum explicitly links abstract economic principles to real-world regional challenges, from industrial regeneration and sustainable energy infrastructure to international market trade agreements.
Staff benefit from shared planning pools and centralized resource banks, allowing the team to deliver high-challenge units while keeping individual marking workloads highly manageable.
Core Responsibilities

Advanced Evaluative Writing: Developing students' ability to produce sophisticated, evidence-backed essays that critically evaluate national and global fiscal decisions.
Data-Driven Intervention: Utilizing granular assessment tracking to identify learning gaps early, providing targeted, high-impact feedback ahead of terminal A-Level and GCSE examinations.
Form Tutor Duties: Leading a dedicated form group, acting as the primary point of academic, pastoral, and holistic support for a cohort of students.
The Successful Candidate We are looking for an ambitious subject specialist who is passionate about market mechanics and possesses the pedagogical skill to stretch analytically minded young people. Your profile should include:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a strong honours degree in Economics, Finance, Mathematics, or a closely related quantitative social science discipline.
Track Record of Progress: Proven experience or a clear capacity to secure excellent progress outcomes in terminal A-Level and GCSE examinations, with a thorough understanding of exam board specifications.
Consistent Behaviour Management: The ability to implement school routines with warmth and rigor, maintaining a highly focused, positive learning environment.
Collaborative Ethos: A positive, professional team player who enjoys sharing resources, debating current economic trends, and contributing to the growth of the whole department.
Why Join Our Faculty?
The distinct professional satisfaction of teaching within an academy setting where your subject expertise directly empowers the next generation of financial analysts, policy makers, and entrepreneurs.
Continuous professional development (CPD) focusing on cognitive science, advanced questioning techniques, and clear pathways into middle leadership.
