Salary: £24,000 – £28,000 per annum (pro-rata, depending on experience)

About the School:
A vibrant, inclusive, and highly supportive secondary school in Leeds is looking to appoint a dedicated Attendance Officer to join their pastoral support team immediately. The school is renowned for its welcoming community culture and is committed to ensuring every student has the support needed to achieve their full academic potential.
About the Role:
As an Attendance Officer, you will play a pivotal role in monitoring student attendance, identifying trends, and working collaboratively with families, school staff, and external agencies to overcome barriers to education. This is a front-line pastoral role requiring a unique blend of robust administrative capability and exceptional interpersonal skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain and update daily attendance registers using the school's management information system (MIS).
Act as the first point of contact for parents and carers regarding student absences, conducting first-day calling swiftly each morning.
Track and analyze daily, weekly, and termly attendance patterns to identify students at risk of persistent absenteeism.
Conduct home visits and facilitate attendance panel meetings to establish positive action plans with families.
Work in close partnership with Heads of Year, the Safeguarding Lead, and Local Authority Education Welfare officers.
Implement the school’s attendance policy, celebrating excellent or improved attendance through school rewards initiatives.
Requirements:
Previous professional experience working within an education setting, pastoral care, or a casework-based environment.
Strong IT literacy with hands-on experience using school databases (such as SIMS, Arbor, or Bromcom).
Outstanding communication skills, with a proven ability to have difficult conversations firmly yet empathetically.
An understanding of current UK school attendance legislation, regulations, and safeguarding procedures.
A valid UK driving license and access to a vehicle is highly advantageous for conducting local home visits.
Must hold an enhanced DBS check on the Update Service, or be willing to undergo an immediate application.
