Physics Teacher | Voluntary Controlled (VC) School | Wolverhampton
The Opportunity
Wolverhampton is a city with a proud industrial engineering heritage, historically at the heart of the Black Country's manufacturing boom and today driving major advancements in aerospace engineering, automotive design, and green technology infrastructure. We are seeking an analytically driven, mathematically rigorous Physics Teacher to join an established voluntary controlled school. In this role, you will challenge students to master Newtonian mechanics, thermodynamics, and quantum phenomena—utilizing the region’s rich engineering landscape and modern high-tech sectors to show how physical laws underpin global technological evolution.
The School
Operating as a voluntary controlled (VC) secondary school, our site and grounds are held by a traditional charitable foundation, while our curriculum delivery, admissions infrastructure, and employment policies are fully managed by the Local Authority. This enables us to maintain a stable, community-centric, and values-driven school culture while operating as a fully inclusive neighbourhood institution. We implement explicit, highly consistent school-wide behaviour systems that ensure our classrooms and laboratories remain quiet, orderly, and highly productive spaces, protecting your instructional time and professional authority.
The Department & Experimental Culture
You will join a successful, collaborative Science faculty where physics is celebrated as a rigorous, mathematical discipline of objective inquiry.
The department features contemporary, purpose-built physics laboratories equipped with advanced practical apparatus, dedicated data-logging technology, and electronic modelling kits.
A highly experienced team of specialist Science Technicians supports the faculty, ensuring all experimental setups, lasers, and electrical equipment are expertly organized, safety-tested, and prepared for high-challenge practical units.
Our curriculum explicitly bridges abstract physical equations with real-world applications, from structural aerospace forces to the thermodynamics of sustainable energy grids.
Core Responsibilities
High-Challenge Instruction: Planning and delivering rigorous Physics lessons across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (GCSE), with opportunities to contribute to Key Stage 5 (A-Level) for an experienced candidate.
Mathematical & Empirical Logic: Training students to comfortably manipulate complex equations, transpose formulas, and interpret graphical data with absolute precision.
Scientific Method & Practical Literacy: Leading safe, efficient laboratory sessions that develop students' abilities to isolate variables, manage experimental error, and evaluate empirical evidence.
Data-Driven Performance: Utilizing the department’s structured assessment metrics to pinpoint learning gaps early, providing clear, targeted feedback to maximize examination performance.
Form Tutor Duties: Leading a dedicated form group, acting as the primary point of academic, pastoral, and holistic support for a cohort of students.
The Successful Candidate We are looking for an ambitious subject specialist who loves the predictive power of physical laws and possesses the pedagogical skill to stretch analytically minded young people. Your profile should include:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a strong honours degree in Physics, Astrophysics, Engineering, or a closely related quantitative physical science discipline.
Track Record of Progression: Proven experience or a clear capacity to secure excellent progress outcomes in terminal GCSE science examinations, with a thorough understanding of current exam board specifications.
Consistent Behaviour Management: The ability to implement explicit school routines with warmth and rigor, maintaining a highly focused, positive, and safe laboratory environment.
Collaborative Ethos: A positive team player eager to contribute to shared planning pools, participate in peer professional development, and support faculty growth.
Why Join Our Faculty?
The distinct satisfaction of working within a stable voluntary controlled school that enjoys strong community ties and a value-driven, supportive environment.
Comprehensive, evidence-based professional development (CPD) focusing on cognitive science, retrieval practice in STEM subjects, and clear pathways into middle leadership.
The exceptional lifestyle benefits of living and working in Wolverhampton—offering incredibly affordable housing, excellent local parks, a rich footballing and cultural heritage, and rapid direct rail links into central Birmingham and Shropshire.
A supportive senior leadership team that respects teacher autonomy and implements a sustainable, evidence-based approach to teacher marking and workload.
