Economics Teaching Role in an Independent School
An independent school in Newcastle is seeking to appoint an Economics Teacher to join its department from September. This is a full-time role within a well-established school that values academic excellence, intellectual curiosity, and high-quality sixth form teaching.
Economics is a highly regarded subject within the school’s post-16 provision, with students encouraged to develop analytical thinking, critical evaluation, and an understanding of microeconomic and macroeconomic principles.
About the Role
You will teach Economics at Key Stage 5, delivering engaging and well-structured lessons that support students in developing strong analytical and evaluative skills.
Students will study core economic concepts including markets, inflation, unemployment, fiscal and monetary policy, international trade, and behavioural economics while developing confidence in essay writing, data interpretation, and independent research.
You will prepare students for A-Level Economics examinations, supporting them in building confidence with economic theory, case studies, and exam technique.
You will work collaboratively within a successful department to maintain high standards of teaching and learning.
Key Responsibilities
Teach Economics at KS5
Deliver engaging and structured Economics lessons
Prepare students for A-Level Economics examinations
Assess student work and provide clear, constructive feedback
Monitor student progress and maintain accurate records
Contribute to curriculum planning and departmental development
Support enrichment opportunities related to business and economics
Maintain high standards of classroom behaviour and engagement

Candidate Requirements
Essential Requirements
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
Experience teaching Economics at secondary or sixth form level
Ability to teach KS5 confidently
Strong subject knowledge in Economics
Strong classroom management and communication skills
Desirable
Experience teaching Business Studies alongside Economics
Experience preparing students for A-Level examinations
Ability to contribute to enrichment or enterprise initiatives
