Senior Science Teaching Role in a Grammar School

A grammar school in Shrewsbury is seeking to appoint a Senior Science Teacher to join its department from September. This is a full-time leadership opportunity within an academically ambitious school that values scientific excellence, innovation, and high standards of teaching and learning.

The Science department is highly successful, delivering strong outcomes across Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, with excellent uptake at GCSE and A-Level. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to departmental leadership, curriculum development, and mentoring within a high-performing academic environment.

About the Role

You will teach Science across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, and Key Stage 5, delivering engaging and challenging lessons that develop students’ scientific understanding, practical skills, and analytical thinking.

Alongside classroom teaching, you will play a key role in supporting departmental leadership, contributing to curriculum planning, assessment strategies, and maintaining high standards of teaching and learning.

You will prepare students for GCSE and A-Level Science examinations while supporting colleagues, sharing best practice, and contributing to intervention and enrichment opportunities.

You will work collaboratively within a successful department focused on academic excellence and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

• Teach Science across KS3, KS4, and KS5

• Deliver lessons across Biology, Chemistry, and Physics

• Support departmental leadership and curriculum development

• Mentor and support colleagues where appropriate

• Prepare students for GCSE and A-Level Science examinations

• Monitor student progress and support intervention strategies

• Maintain safe laboratory procedures and environments

• Contribute to STEM enrichment and departmental improvement initiatives

Candidate Requirements

Essential Requirements

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

• Experience teaching Science at secondary level

• Ability to teach Science confidently across KS3 and KS4

• Strong subject knowledge across Biology, Chemistry, or Physics

• Experience supporting curriculum development or departmental initiatives

• Strong classroom management and communication skills

Desirable

• Experience teaching A-Level Science

• Previous leadership or mentoring experience

• Experience preparing students for GCSE and A-Level examinations
