An independent school in Stoke-on-Trent is seeking to appoint a Design & Technology Teacher to join its department from September. This is a full-time role within a creative and academically ambitious school that values practical learning, innovation, and high-quality teaching.
DT is a well-respected subject within the school, with students developing practical skills, design thinking, and problem-solving abilities through hands-on projects and theoretical understanding.
About the Role
You will teach Design & Technology across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, and Key Stage 5, delivering engaging lessons that develop students’ creativity, technical knowledge, and practical skills.
The role includes delivering a range of DT disciplines depending on specialism, such as product design, resistant materials, graphics, or engineering principles.
You will prepare students for GCSE and A-Level DT examinations, supporting them in developing design portfolios, technical understanding, and practical project work.
You will work collaboratively within a creative department focused on innovation and high standards.
Key Responsibilities
Teach Design & Technology across KS3, KS4, and KS5
Deliver practical and theory-based DT lessons
Support students in developing design portfolios and coursework
Prepare students for GCSE and A-Level DT examinations
Assess, track, and report student progress
Maintain workshop safety and good practice
Contribute to curriculum planning and departmental development
Support creative enrichment and project-based learning

Candidate Requirements
Essential Requirements
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
Experience teaching Design & Technology at secondary level
Ability to teach KS3 and KS4 confidently
Strong practical workshop skills
Good classroom management and communication skills
Desirable
Experience teaching A-Level DT or Product Design
Experience in specialist areas such as CAD, resistant materials, or engineering
Ability to support portfolio-based assessment
