English Teaching Role in a Grammar School
A grammar school in York is seeking to appoint an English Teacher to join its English department from September. This is a full-time role within a selective school that places strong emphasis on academic achievement, literacy, and critical thinking.
English is a highly regarded subject within the school, with strong outcomes at both GCSE and A-Level. Students are encouraged to engage with a broad range of literary texts and develop analytical and communication skills.
About the Role
You will teach English across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, and Key Stage 5, delivering lessons in both English Language and English Literature.
Students will study a range of prose, poetry, drama, and non-fiction texts while developing written analysis, interpretation, and evaluative skills.
You will prepare students for GCSE and A-Level examinations, supporting them in developing confidence in extended writing and exam technique.
You will work collaboratively within a successful department to maintain high standards of teaching and assessment.
Key Responsibilities
Teach English across KS3, KS4, and KS5
Deliver lessons in English Language and Literature
Prepare students for GCSE and A-Level English examinations
Assess student work and provide detailed feedback
Monitor student progress and maintain accurate records
Contribute to departmental planning and curriculum development
Promote literacy and independent reading
Support enrichment activities such as debating or reading clubs

Essential Requirements
