Physics Teacher | Secondary School & Sixth Form | Bolton
The Opportunity
Bolton is a town with a rich mechanical heritage—from its historic textile mills to its modern role in the North West’s engineering and aerospace corridors. We are seeking a specialist Physics Teacher who can turn the classroom into a hub of innovation. This role involves teaching across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, with significant opportunities to lead A-Level Physics and contribute to the school’s thriving STEM provision.
The Department
You will join a robust Science faculty with dedicated Physics laboratories, featuring specialized equipment for the study of electromagnetism, wave-particle duality, and Newtonian mechanics.
The department is supported by a dedicated technician team who ensure all apparatus—from cloud chambers to oscilloscopes—is safely prepared and calibrated for practical enquiry.
We utilize a curriculum that emphasizes "Physics in Context," linking abstract mathematical models to real-world engineering challenges found in the local Greater Manchester economy.
We benefit from strong links with regional universities and local apprenticeship providers, ensuring students see the direct pathway from the classroom to high-value careers in research and industry.
Core Responsibilities
Delivering high-impact, practical-led lessons that demystify the fundamental laws of the universe, moving from basic energy transfers to the complexities of quantum phenomena.
Teaching students to use mathematical language with precision, ensuring they can confidently manipulate equations, work with standard form, and analyze vector diagrams.
Preparing Year 11 and Year 13 students for GCSE and A-Level examinations, with a particular focus on the "Required Practicals" and the development of rigorous experimental techniques.
Enhancing students' ability to interpret data and evaluate uncertainties, fostering the critical thinking skills required for academic and professional success in science.
Leading extracurricular initiatives such as "Physics at the Edge" clubs, astronomy evenings, or national competitions like the British Physics Olympiad.
The Successful Candidate We are looking for a specialist who can bridge the gap between abstract logic and physical reality. Requirements include:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in Physics, Engineering, or a related quantitative discipline.
A proven ability to deliver the Physics specification with rigour, ensuring high-attaining students are challenged while supporting those who find abstract concepts difficult.
Strong subject knowledge and a commitment to maintaining safe laboratory practices in accordance with CLEAPSS guidelines.
Excellent pedagogical skills, particularly the use of physical models and live modeling to help students visualize invisible forces and fields.
Why Join Us?
A school that treats Physics as a flagship academic subject, recognizing its unique role in developing student resilience and problem-solving prowess.
Access to a structured CPD program focused on both subject-specialist upskilling and research-led teaching strategies like "Dual Coding" and "Retrieval Practice."
A supportive, professional staff culture within a town that offers a high quality of life, affordable living, and immediate access to the West Pennine Moors.
Located in a central North West hub with exceptional rail and road links to Manchester, Preston, and beyond.
