Geography Teacher | Academy | Newcastle
The Opportunity
Newcastle is a city where Geography comes to life—from the dramatic post-industrial transformation of the Quayside to its proximity to the world-class landscapes of the Northumberland coast and the North Pennines. We are seeking a passionate Geography Teacher to join our Humanities faculty. This role involves teaching across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, with opportunities for A-Level delivery. You will be responsible for helping students navigate the complexities of our changing world, from the physical forces that shape the Earth to the human challenges of urbanisation and climate change.
The Department
You will join a forward-thinking Humanities team that utilizes Newcastle’s local geography as a "living classroom" for fieldwork and case studies.
The department is well-resourced with high-spec GIS (Geographic Information Systems) software, modern cartographic tools, and a vast library of digital resources and physical models.
We prioritize a "Global Citizen" curriculum, encouraging students to engage with contemporary issues such as sustainable development, migration, and resource management.
We benefit from strong links with Newcastle and Northumbria Universities, providing students with pathways into higher education and careers in environmental science, town planning, and international development.
Core Responsibilities
Delivering high-impact lessons that balance Physical Geography (tectonics, glaciation, coastal processes) with Human Geography (globalization, changing urban environments, economic development).
Leading local and residential fieldwork opportunities, ensuring students develop practical skills in data collection, analysis, and cartography.
Preparing Year 11 and Year 13 students for GCSE and A-Level examinations, with a particular focus on evaluative writing and the interpretation of complex geographical data.
Enhancing students' graphical and statistical literacy, teaching them to analyze climate graphs, population pyramids, and choropleth maps.
Leading extracurricular initiatives such as an "Eco-Council," sustainability projects, or geography-themed debate clubs.
The Successful Candidate We are looking for a specialist who can make global concepts feel local and relevant. Requirements include:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in Geography or a related Environmental Science discipline.
A proven ability to motivate students of all abilities, fostering a genuine curiosity about the world and its diverse cultures.
Strong subject knowledge across the current GCSE and A-Level specifications (e.g., AQA, Edexcel, or OCR).
The ability to use technology effectively to bring the "outside world" into the classroom, through virtual field trips and real-time data tracking.
Why Join Us?
A school that treats Geography as a vital academic subject for understanding the 21st-century's most pressing challenges.
Access to a structured CPD program focused on both pedagogical innovation and the latest developments in geographical research.
A supportive, energetic staff culture within a world-class city known for its warmth, heritage, and academic ambition.
Located in a vibrant Northern hub with exceptional transport links and easy access to some of the UK’s most stunning National Parks.
