Biology Teacher | Secondary School & Sixth Form | Rugby
The Opportunity
Rugby is a town synonymous with history, education, and innovation—the birthplace of both a world-famous sport and the jet engine. We are seeking an inspiring Biology Teacher to join our Science faculty. This role involves teaching across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, with a significant emphasis on A-Level Biology. You will be responsible for guiding students through the intricacies of the living world, from the microscopic complexities of cellular respiration to the vast interactions within global ecosystems.
The Department
You will work in a high-performing Science department with dedicated Biology laboratories and a specialist botanical area for ecological studies.
The department is supported by a highly skilled team of Science Technicians who facilitate a wide range of practical work, including advanced microscopy, gel electrophoresis, and complex dissections.
We utilize a curriculum that emphasizes the "Big Ideas" in Biology, linking theory to modern breakthroughs in CRISPR technology, vaccine development, and conservation biology.
We maintain strong links with Warwickshire-based biotechnology firms and regional universities, offering students opportunities for "Science in Action" days and advanced laboratory workshops.
Core Responsibilities
Delivering high-impact lessons that balance rigorous theoretical study with hands-on practical enquiry.
Teaching core biological pillars, including cell ultrastructure, biological molecules, exchange surfaces, and genetic diversity.
Preparing Year 11 and Year 13 students for GCSE and A-Level examinations (AQA or OCR), focusing on the mastery of "Required Practical's" and the application of theory to unfamiliar data.
Enhancing students' mathematical and statistical literacy, ensuring they can confidently perform calculations for magnification, cardiac output, and biodiversity indices.
Leading extracurricular initiatives, such as a "Eco-Committee," a pre-medical society for aspiring clinicians, or national Biology Challenge entries.
The Successful Candidate We are looking for a specialist who can make the "invisible" world of molecular biology tangible and exciting. Requirements include:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in Biology, Biomedical Science, or a related Life Science discipline.
A proven ability to deliver the Biology specification with rigor, ensuring a high level of academic challenge for all learners.
Strong practical skills and a commitment to maintaining a safe laboratory environment in accordance with CLEAPSS guidelines.
The ability to use physical models and digital simulations to explain abstract processes, such as protein synthesis or the sliding filament theory of muscle contraction.
Why Join Us?
A school that treats Biology as a flagship academic subject with one of the highest levels of student uptake at Post-16.
Access to a structured CPD program focused on both subject-specialist upskilling and the latest research in cognitive science and "Rosenshine’s Principles" as applied to Science.
A supportive, professional staff culture within a historic town that values academic ambition and community spirit.
Located in a central Warwickshire hub with exceptional transport links to Coventry, Birmingham, and Leicester, and immediate access to beautiful Midlands countryside.
