Physics Teacher | Secondary School & Sixth Form | Scunthorpe
The Opportunity
Scunthorpe is a town with a legendary industrial identity, built on the foundations of iron and steel production. This makes it a perfect environment for a Physics specialist to demonstrate the real-world application of forces, thermodynamics, and material science. We are seeking a dedicated Physics Teacher to join our Science faculty. This role involves teaching across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, with significant opportunities to lead A-Level Physics for a candidate with the right expertise.
The Department
You will join a robust Science department with dedicated Physics laboratories, equipped with everything from Van de Graaff generators and oscilloscopes to advanced optics and radioactivity kits.
The department is supported by a specialist technician team who manage the safe deployment of practical equipment and assist in the setup of complex demonstrations.
We utilize a curriculum that emphasizes "Physics in Industry," linking abstract concepts to the engineering and manufacturing processes that define the local North Lincolnshire economy.
We maintain active links with regional universities and local engineering firms, facilitating site visits and STEM workshops that help students see the career pathways open to physicists.
Core Responsibilities
Delivering high-impact lessons that demystify the fundamental laws of the universe, from Newtonian mechanics to the complexities of particle physics.
Facilitating regular practical work that allows students to develop their skills in measurement, data analysis, and the evaluation of experimental errors.
Preparing Year 11 and Year 13 students for GCSE and A-Level examinations, with a focus on mastery of the "Required Practical's" and the mathematical application of physics formulae.
Enhancing students' mathematical fluency, ensuring they can confidently manipulate equations, work with standard form, and interpret complex graphical data.
Leading extracurricular initiatives such as "Astronomy Club," robotics competitions, or "Physics in Action" guest speaker sessions.
The Successful Candidate We are looking for a specialist who can bridge the gap between abstract mathematics and physical reality. Requirements include:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in Physics, Astrophysics, Engineering, or a related field.
A proven ability to deliver the Physics specification with rigor, ensuring a high level of academic challenge for all students.
Strong practical skills and a commitment to maintaining a safe laboratory environment in accordance with CLEAPSS guidelines.
The ability to use physical models and analogies to explain difficult concepts—such as electromagnetic induction or wave-particle duality—to a diverse range of learners.
Why Join Us?
A school that treats Physics as a flagship subject, recognizing its importance in opening doors to elite university courses and high-value careers.
Access to a structured CPD program focused on both subject-specialist upskilling and the latest research in cognitive science and "Direct Instruction" in Science.
A supportive, professional staff culture within a school that values hard work, community spirit, and student aspiration.
Located in a historic industrial town that offers affordable living, a strong sense of community, and easy access to the Lincolnshire Wolds and the Humber coast.
