Biology Teacher | Secondary School & Sixth Form | Worthing
The Opportunity
Worthing is a vibrant coastal town that offers a unique natural laboratory, from the diverse marine ecosystems of the English Channel to the chalk grasslands of the South Downs. We are seeking an inspiring Biology Teacher who can utilize this rich local environment to bring the study of life to life. This role involves teaching across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, with a significant focus on A-Level Biology, where you will guide students through the complexities of molecular biology, genetics, and global biodiversity.
The Department
You will join a high-performing Science faculty with dedicated, modern Biology laboratories and a specialist prep room.
The department is supported by expert technicians who facilitate a wide range of practical work, including advanced microscopy, dissections, and microbiological culturing.
We prioritize fieldwork and "outdoor learning," taking full advantage of the nearby coastline and the South Downs National Park for ecological sampling and conservation studies.
We utilize industry-standard technology, such as digital data loggers and PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) kits, to provide students with a glimpse into contemporary biotechnological research.
Core Responsibilities
Delivering high-impact lessons that bridge the gap between microscopic processes and macroscopic ecosystems.
Teaching the core pillars of the Biology curriculum, including cell ultrastructure, transport systems, gas exchange, and the principles of inheritance.
Preparing Year 11 and Year 13 students for GCSE and A-Level examinations, with a particular focus on the "Required Practical's" and the application of biological theory to unfamiliar contexts.
Enhancing students' statistical literacy, teaching them to use Chi-squared tests, Simpson’s Index of Diversity, and standard deviation to analyse biological data.
Leading extracurricular initiatives, such as a "Medical Society" for aspiring doctors and vets, or sustainability projects focused on local marine conservation.
The Successful Candidate We are looking for a specialist who is as passionate about the "how" of life as they are about the "why." Requirements include:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in Biology, Biomedical Science, or a related Life Science discipline.
A proven ability to deliver the A-Level Biology specification with rigour and enthusiasm.
Strong practical skills and a commitment to maintaining a safe, high-quality laboratory environment (following CLEAPSS guidelines).
The ability to explain complex, abstract concepts—such as oxidative phosphorylation or synaptic transmission—using clear models and analogies.
Why Join Us?
A school that treats Biology as a flagship academic subject with high levels of student uptake at Post-16.
A structured CPD program that keeps you at the forefront of biological research and pedagogical innovation.
A supportive, professional staff culture within a school that values academic excellence and the holistic well-being of its staff.
Located in a sunny South Coast town that offers a high quality of life, a relaxed coastal atmosphere, and easy rail links to Brighton and London.
