The Opportunity
Chesterfield is a town where the landscape tells a story of geological wonder and industrial ingenuity, from the famous "Crooked Spire" to its proximity to the Peak District's unique ecosystems. We are seeking a Science Teacher who can ignite curiosity about the natural and physical world. This role involves teaching across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, delivering a curriculum that spans Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, with opportunities to teach a specialist subject at Key Stage 5 for the right candidate.
The Department
You will be based in a modern Science block featuring state-of-the-art laboratories designed for both theoretical study and safe, high-impact practical experimentation.
The department is supported by a team of experienced Science Technicians who ensure all equipment—from Van de Graaff generators to chemical reagents—is prepared to the highest standard.
We utilize a "Big Ideas" curriculum that links scientific concepts to global challenges, such as renewable energy, genetic engineering, and environmental conservation.
We benefit from local links with the Peak District National Park for ecological fieldwork and regional STEM hubs for university-led research projects.
Core Responsibilities
Delivering high-quality, practical-led lessons that develop students' scientific enquiry skills and their ability to test hypotheses.
Teaching the core components of the Science curriculum, including cell biology, atomic structure, energy transfers, and the laws of motion.
Preparing Year 11 students for GCSE Combined Science or Triple Science (AQA or Edexcel), focusing on mastery of both content and the "Required Practicals."
Enhancing students' mathematical literacy within a scientific context, including data analysis, graph interpretation, and the manipulation of physics formulae.
Leading extracurricular STEM initiatives, such as "Science Week" workshops, gardening clubs, or competitive robotics teams.
The Successful Candidate We are looking for a specialist who can make the "invisible" world of atoms and cells visible and exciting. Requirements include:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in a Science discipline (Biology, Chemistry, or Physics).
A proven ability to manage a laboratory environment safely, prioritizing rigorous Health & Safety protocols (CLEAPSS).
Strong subject knowledge across all three sciences at Key Stage 3 and 4, with a deep passion for your specific specialism.
Excellent pedagogical skills, particularly the ability to use models and analogies to explain complex abstract concepts.
Why Join Us?
An Academy that recognizes Science as a flagship subject for developing critical thinking and evidence-based reasoning.
A structured CPD program focused on the latest developments in cognitive science and practical pedagogy.
A supportive, professional staff culture within a school that prides itself on its community spirit and academic ambition.
Located in a historic market town that offers a gateway to the Peak District, providing an exceptional quality of life and great transport links to Sheffield and Derby.
