The Opportunity
Bolton is a town with a rich community identity and a rapidly growing focus on health and social sciences. We are seeking a dedicated Psychology Teacher to join our Social Sciences department. This role involves teaching Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5, where you will guide students through the fascinating study of the human mind and behaviour. You will be responsible for fostering a scientific approach to understanding complex social and cognitive phenomena, preparing students for both academic success and a deeper understanding of the world around them.
The Department
You will be part of a high-achieving Social Sciences faculty that views Psychology as a vital bridge between the humanities and the hard sciences.
The department is well-resourced with a library of contemporary research journals, digital subscriptions to psychology databases, and interactive tools for conducting classroom-based experiments.
We prioritize a research-informed curriculum, encouraging students to critically evaluate classic studies—from Milgram’s obedience experiments to Loftus’s work on eyewitness testimony.
The school maintains strong links with Greater Manchester universities, offering students opportunities to attend guest lectures and participate in undergraduate-led research workshops.
Core Responsibilities
Delivering intellectually stimulating lessons across the core domains of Psychology, including Social, Cognitive, Developmental, and Biological perspectives.
Teaching students how to apply the scientific method to psychological enquiry, including the design of experiments, data analysis, and the ethics of human research.
Preparing Year 11 and Year 13 students for GCSE and A-Level examinations (typically AQA or Edexcel), with a heavy focus on the "AO3" skill of critical evaluation.
Explaining complex neurological processes, such as the fight-or-flight response and the role of neurotransmitters in mental health conditions.
Leading discussions on contemporary issues in Psychology, such as the impact of social media on adolescent development and the nature vs. nurture debate.
The Successful Candidate We are looking for an analytical and empathetic educator who can make abstract theories accessible. Requirements include:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in Psychology or a closely related field.
Exceptional subject knowledge, particularly in the core A-Level specifications and Research Methods.
A proven ability to teach the mathematical requirements of the course, including descriptive and inferential statistics.
The communication skills necessary to manage sensitive classroom discussions with professionalism and objectivity.
Why Join Us?
A school that recognizes Psychology as one of its most popular and high-performing subjects at Post-16.
Access to a structured CPD program focused on the latest developments in cognitive science and pedagogical research.
