Physical Education (PE) Teacher | Academy | Wakefield
The Opportunity
Wakefield is a city with a deep-rooted sporting identity, from its legendary rugby league heritage to its thriving grassroots football and athletics clubs. We are seeking a dynamic PE Teacher who can harness this local passion to inspire a lifelong love of physical activity. This role involves teaching across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, delivering a high-energy curriculum that balances competitive team sports with individual fitness, health, and well-being.
The Department
You will have access to exceptional facilities, including a large multi-use sports hall, floodlit all-weather pitches, a fully equipped fitness suite, and extensive grass playing fields.
The department operates with a "Sport for All" ethos, ensuring that high-performance athletes are stretched while less confident students are encouraged to find an activity they enjoy.
We utilize digital performance analysis tools and wearable technology to help students track their progress and understand the physiological impact of exercise.
The school has a robust fixtures calendar, competing regularly in local and regional leagues across a variety of sports including rugby, netball, football, and cricket.
Core Responsibilities
Delivering high-quality practical lessons across a broad range of activities, including team games, gymnastics, athletics, and OAA (Outdoor Adventurous Activities).
Teaching the theoretical components of the PE curriculum at Key Stage 4 (GCSE or BTEC Sport), covering anatomy, physiology, sports psychology, and socio-cultural issues in sport.
Managing a safe and inclusive environment, ensuring all equipment is used correctly and that high standards of kit and behavior are maintained.
Leading and coaching school teams, including organizing fixtures, managing trials, and officiating matches both at home and away.
Promoting the link between physical activity and mental health, encouraging students to understand the importance of a balanced, active lifestyle.
The Successful Candidate We are looking for a role model who leads by example and radiates enthusiasm for sport. Requirements include:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in Physical Education, Sports Science, or a related discipline.
A proven ability to coach multiple sports to a high standard and a willingness to contribute to a busy extracurricular timetable.
Strong classroom management skills and the ability to transition seamlessly between the "practical" field and the "theoretical" classroom.
A commitment to safeguarding and a solid understanding of health and safety protocols within a sporting context.
Why Join Us?
A school that recognizes PE as a vital pillar of student character, leadership, and resilience.
Access to a structured CPD program that includes opportunities for coaching qualifications and middle-leadership development.
A collaborative and competitive staff culture that values the unique "team spirit" that the PE department brings to the wider school.
Located in a central Yorkshire city with fantastic transport links to Leeds and Sheffield, offering a blend of urban amenities and proximity to the Pennines.
