Religious Education (RE) Teacher | Faith Academy | Bradford
The Opportunity
Bradford is one of the most culturally diverse and vibrant cities in the UK, offering an unparalleled environment for an RE specialist. We are seeking a dedicated Religious Education Teacher who can foster a classroom culture of respect, deep enquiry, and critical thinking. This role involves teaching across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, guiding students through an exploration of the world’s major religions, ethical philosophies, and the complex relationship between faith and modern society.
The Department
You will join a high-profile Humanities faculty that views RE as a cornerstone of the school’s commitment to community cohesion and personal development.
As a "Faith Academy," we provide a supportive environment that values the spiritual life of the school while encouraging students of all faiths and none to engage in rigorous academic debate.
The department is well-resourced with a wide variety of sacred texts, digital media resources, and a collaborative curriculum that moves beyond "learning about" religion to "learning from" it.
We have deep-rooted links with local places of worship and interfaith networks, facilitating regular site visits and guest speaker sessions that bring the curriculum to life.
Core Responsibilities
Delivering high-quality lessons that challenge students to engage with "Big Questions" surrounding existence, morality, and social justice.
Teaching the core tenets, practices, and diverse expressions of world faiths, including Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Sikhism, Hinduism, and Buddhism.
Preparing Year 11 students for GCSE Religious Studies, focusing on mastery of the two-paper structure: Beliefs and Practices, and Thematic Studies (Ethics and Philosophy).
Facilitating a "safe space" for dialogue where students can explore controversial topics—such as medical ethics, human rights, and the nature of suffering—with maturity and empathy.
Contributing to the school’s collective worship and pastoral life, helping students develop their own sense of identity and values.
The Successful Candidate We are looking for a specialist who is as passionate about sociology and philosophy as they are about theology. Requirements include:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in Religious Studies, Theology, Philosophy, or a related Humanities discipline.
A proven ability to navigate sensitive topics with professionalism and to promote British Values alongside the school’s specific faith ethos.
Strong subject knowledge across the current GCSE specifications (e.g., AQA Spec A or Edexcel).
Excellent communication skills and the ability to inspire curiosity in students from a wide range of backgrounds.
Why Join Us?
A school that recognizes RE as a vital academic discipline for navigating the complexities of the 21st century.
Access to a structured CPD program focused on both subject-specialist theology and pedagogical strategies for handling "hot-topic" debates.
A supportive, warm, and inclusive staff culture that celebrates diversity and mutual respect.
Located in a city famous for its heritage, world-class curry scene, and proximity to the stunning Yorkshire Dales.
