Geography Teacher | Community School | Sheffield
The Opportunity Sheffield, the "Outdoor City," offers a unique geographical landscape—from its industrial urban heart to the doorstep of the Peak District National Park. We are seeking a dynamic Geography Teacher who can utilize this diverse local environment to bring physical and human geography to life. This role involves teaching across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, inspiring students to engage with the critical global issues of our time, including climate change, urban regeneration, and resource management.
The Department
You will join a forward-thinking Humanities faculty that views Geography as a vital lens through which to understand the modern world.
The department is well-resourced with the latest GIS (Geographic Information Systems) software, high-spec tablets for fieldwork data collection, and a vast library of digital case studies.
We prioritize fieldwork at every level, taking full advantage of our proximity to the Peak District for river and glacial studies, as well as Sheffield’s city center for urban redevelopment projects.
Our curriculum is designed to be "living," constantly updated to reflect current global events, from tectonic shifts to international migration patterns.
Core Responsibilities
Delivering high-quality, enquiry-based lessons that challenge students to think critically about the relationship between people and their environment.
Teaching the "Physical" curriculum, including plate tectonics, weather hazards, and coastal landscapes, with a focus on process and impact.
Guiding students through "Human" geography modules, such as the changing economic world, global development, and sustainable urban living.
Preparing Year 11 students for GCSE Geography, ensuring they are confident in map skills, data interpretation, and the application of diverse case studies.
Leading and organizing mandatory and enrichment fieldwork trips, ensuring students develop robust primary data collection and analysis skills.
The Successful Candidate We are looking for a global-minded educator who is as comfortable in the field as they are in the classroom. Requirements include:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in Geography, Environmental Science, or a related field.
A proven ability to make complex spatial concepts accessible and exciting for students of all abilities.
A strong understanding of the current GCSE specifications (e.g., AQA, Edexcel, or OCR B).
Excellent ICT skills, particularly in the use of digital mapping and data visualization tools.
Why Join Us?
A school that treats Geography as a flagship EBacc subject, ensuring it receives the curriculum time and investment it deserves.
A comprehensive CPD program that offers specialized training in GIS and fieldwork risk management.
A collaborative and energetic staff culture that values teamwork and the sharing of innovative teaching resources.
Located in a city that perfectly balances urban culture with immediate access to some of the UK's most beautiful natural landscapes.
