The Opportunity
Lincoln is a city where history is written into the skyline, from its Roman roots to its medieval cathedral and its role as the birthplace of the tank. We are seeking a History Teacher who can draw on this incredible local heritage to bring the past to life. This role involves teaching across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, guiding students through a curriculum that explores the turning points of British and world history, fostering a deep understanding of how past events continue to shape our contemporary world.
The Department
You will join a Humanities faculty that champions an enquiry-led approach, encouraging students to act as historians by interrogating evidence and debating interpretations.
The department is well-equipped with a wealth of digital resources, primary source packs, and a collaborative "knowledge-rich" curriculum designed to build chronological security.
We benefit from our proximity to Lincoln Castle and the Cathedral, frequently using these sites for local study modules and field trips.
There is a strong culture of shared planning, with a focus on reducing individual workload while maintaining high academic standards and innovative lesson delivery.
Core Responsibilities
Delivering high-impact lessons that challenge students to analyze complex historical narratives and construct coherent, evidence-based arguments.
Teaching a broad and balanced curriculum, covering periods from the Norman Conquest and the Tudors to the global conflicts and social movements of the 20th century.
Preparing Year 11 students for GCSE History, with a particular focus on mastering exam techniques for source evaluation and essay writing.
Developing students’ ability to identify and critique historical interpretations, helping them understand why the past is viewed differently over time.
Contributing to the school’s extracurricular life through History clubs, guest speaker events, or heritage projects within the Lincoln community.
The Successful Candidate We are looking for an articulate and enthusiastic specialist who is committed to making history accessible and relevant to all pupils. Requirements include:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in History or a related field.
A proven ability to engage students with diverse historical topics, from local archaeology to international diplomacy.
Strong subject knowledge across the current GCSE specifications (e.g., AQA, Edexcel, or OCR).
Excellent communication skills and the resilience to manage a classroom environment that encourages healthy, evidence-led debate.
