French Teacher | Faith Academy | Liverpool
The Opportunity Liverpool is a city with a famously outward-looking perspective and deep historic links to Europe, making it a fantastic place to inspire the next generation of linguists. We are seeking a passionate French Teacher to join our Academy. This role involves teaching across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, moving beyond simple vocabulary to foster a genuine love for Francophone culture, cinema, and literature. You will be instrumental in developing students' confidence in speaking, listening, reading, and writing in a second language.
The Department
You will be part of a vibrant MFL faculty that utilizes a communicative approach to language learning, prioritizing "real-world" fluency and spontaneous speech.
The department is equipped with modern language labs and subscriptions to interactive digital platforms like Linguascope and This Is Language to enhance student engagement.
As a "Faith Academy," we emphasize the role of languages in building bridges between global communities and fostering a spirit of international solidarity and empathy.
We have an active calendar of cultural enrichment, including French film clubs, pétanque tournaments, and long-standing exchange links with schools in France.
Core Responsibilities
Planning and delivering high-energy lessons that build grammatical accuracy and a wide-ranging vocabulary.
Facilitating a "target language" environment where students feel safe to take risks and practice their speaking skills.
Preparing Year 11 students for GCSE French (AQA or Edexcel), focusing on rigorous preparation for the four key assessment pillars: Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing.
Integrating authentic cultural materials—such as music, news articles, and short stories—to provide context and depth to language acquisition.
Tracking student progress through regular formative assessment and providing personalized feedback to bridge attainment gaps.
The Successful Candidate We are looking for a linguist who can bring the "joie de vivre" of the French-speaking world into the classroom. Requirements include:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in French or a related Modern Foreign Languages field.
Near-native fluency in French and a high level of English literacy.
A proven ability to motivate students of all backgrounds, demonstrating the professional and personal value of being multilingual.
A strong understanding of the current GCSE specifications and the ability to deliver effective exam-prep strategies.
