Physics Teacher | Community School | Rotherham
The Opportunity Rotherham is a town with a strong engineering heritage and a bright future in advanced manufacturing, making it the perfect place to inspire the next generation of physicists. We are seeking a specialist who can bring the laws of the universe to life, from the mechanics of local industry to the mysteries of deep space. This role involves teaching across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, developing students' ability to think critically, model phenomena, and solve complex problems using both logic and mathematics.
The Department
You will be part of a dedicated Science faculty with access to specialized Physics laboratories and a vast array of practical equipment, from Van de Graaff generators to digital data loggers.
The department benefits from a collaborative "hub" model, where teachers share high-quality simulations, interactive modeling tools, and retrieval practice resources.
A specialist technician team ensures that all practical demonstrations—ranging from circuit building to radiation experiments—are set up safely and efficiently.
We have established links with the Advanced Manufacturing Park (AMP) in Rotherham, providing students with insight into how Physics drives real-world innovation.
Core Responsibilities
Delivering high-impact lessons that cover the breadth of the Physics curriculum, including energy, forces, waves, electricity, and electromagnetism.
Managing a safe, inquiry-led classroom environment where practical experimentation is used to verify theoretical laws.
Preparing Key Stage 4 students for GCSE Physics (both Combined and Triple Science), with a heavy focus on mastering the mathematical demands of the specification.
Supporting students in developing their "working scientifically" skills, including independent variable control, data analysis, and the evaluation of uncertainties.
Leading enrichment activities that promote STEM careers, such as astronomy clubs or engineering challenges.
The Successful Candidate We are looking for a Physics enthusiast who can make the abstract tangible. Requirements include:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in Physics, Astrophysics, or a related Engineering discipline.
Strong subject knowledge across the GCSE specification, including a confident grasp of the required mathematical formulas and derivations.
The ability to differentiate complex concepts for students of all abilities, ensuring that Physics remains accessible and exciting for everyone.
A commitment to maintaining rigorous health and safety standards in line with CLEAPSS and school policies.
Why Join Us?
A school that understands the critical importance of Physics as a "facilitating subject" for students' future academic and career paths.
A structured CPD program that offers opportunities for subject-specialist training and leadership development.
A supportive, down-to-earth staff culture that prioritizes teamwork and professional well-being.
Located in the heart of South Yorkshire, with excellent transport links to Sheffield, Doncaster, and the M1.
