The Opportunity Manchester has a storied literary history, from the works of Elizabeth Gaskell to its status as a UNESCO City of Literature. We are seeking an exceptional English Teacher to join our selective Grammar School. This role involves teaching academically driven students across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, and potentially Key Stage 5. You will be responsible for fostering a deep intellectual curiosity for the English language and its greatest literary achievements, from Shakespearean tragedy to contemporary post-colonial prose.

Core Responsibilities
Planning and delivering intellectually stimulating lessons that challenge students to analyze language, form, and structure with precision.
Teaching a wide range of texts, including poetry, drama, and non-fiction, while developing students' ability to craft sophisticated, evidence-based arguments.
Preparing students for high-attainment at GCSE and A-Level, with a specific focus on mastering the nuances of literary theory and advanced rhetoric.
Facilitating high-level classroom discussions that encourage students to think critically about historical context and authorial intent.
Supporting the wider literacy of the school, including the promotion of creative writing and public speaking through extracurricular clubs.
The Successful Candidate We are looking for a scholar-teacher who is passionate about the power of the written word. Requirements include:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a high-quality degree in English Literature or English Language.
A proven track record of achieving excellent results with high-ability students at Key Stage 4 and 5.
Extensive subject knowledge, including a deep familiarity with a variety of literary eras and critical perspectives.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to inspire a genuine love for reading and analytical thinking.
