Exams Officer - High-Achieving Secondary School in Bristol - September Start
A well-regarded and high-achieving secondary school in Bristol is seeking a highly organised and detail-oriented Exams Officer to join its administrative leadership team from September 2026. This is a mission-critical role for a professional who thrives in a high-pressure environment where precision, compliance, and effective scheduling are essential to the school’s academic success.
The Exams Officer is responsible for the seamless delivery of all internal and external examinations, ensuring that every student is provided with a fair and compliant environment in which to achieve their best results.
The Role
Managing the end-to-end administration of all public examinations (GCSE, A-Level, BTEC) and internal mocks
Coordinating with Awarding Bodies regarding entries, amendments, and the secure handling of papers
Using school MIS systems (e.g., SIMS, Arbor, or Bromcom) to manage entries and result downloads
Recruiting, training, and managing a team of external Exam Invigilators
Overseeing the logistical arrangements for exams, including room bookings and seating plans
Collaborating with the SENCo to ensure all Access Arrangements are correctly implemented and evidenced
Serving as the primary point of contact for the JCQ and ensuring absolute adherence to their regulations
Managing the distribution of results and the post-results services (reviews of marking and appeals)
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
Previous experience as an Exams Officer or in a senior school administrative role
Advanced proficiency in school MIS software and Excel for data management
A thorough understanding of JCQ regulations and statutory requirements for examinations
Exceptional organisational skills and the ability to work under significant seasonal pressure
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to liaise confidently with staff, students, and parents
A proactive, "cool-headed," and meticulous approach to problem-solving
