We are seeking an educator who can inspire students to become the engineers, designers, and problem-solvers of tomorrow. This role involves teaching across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, guiding pupils through the complete design process—from initial conceptualization and CAD modeling to final manufacture and evaluation.
The Department
You will work in a well-resourced faculty featuring dedicated workshops for woodwork, metalwork, and modern plastics.
The department is equipped with industry-standard technology, including 3D printers, laser cutters, and a suite of high-spec computers running CAD/CAM software.
A specialist D&T technician is on hand to manage machinery maintenance, material preparation, and health and safety compliance.
We foster a collaborative atmosphere where staff share project ideas and resources to ensure a diverse and challenging curriculum.
Core Responsibilities
Planning and delivering lessons that balance theoretical knowledge of materials and components with hands-on practical skills.
Teaching students how to use a range of hand tools and machinery safely and with increasing precision.
Guiding Key Stage 4 students through their GCSE or vocational coursework, ensuring they meet rigorous design and making criteria.
Integrating modern technologies, such as CAD/CAM, into the curriculum to reflect current industry practices.
Managing a safe, organized workshop environment where students are encouraged to innovate and iterate on their designs.
The Successful Candidate We are looking for a proactive teacher who is as comfortable with a traditional lathe as they are with a digital design interface. Requirements include
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in Design & Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
Strong technical competence across various materials (timber, metals, polymers) and manufacturing processes.
A solid understanding of current health and safety legislation (DATA) within a workshop setting.
The ability to motivate students to see the real-world application of their design projects.
